Medjool Dates

Origins

The Medjool cultivar originates from the Tafilalt region of Morocco, where it is still grown. Outside Morocco, it is grown in the United States, Israel, Palestine, Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Jordan. The variety is planted both for its fruit and for landscaping.

Taste and Texture

The skin is glossy and tender with a maple-brown hue, and the meaty amber-colored pulp offers a chewy texture and candy-like sweetness with hints of caramel, honey, and cinnamon.

Processing Methods

Date farmers will spend their days under the sun, up in the trees. They untie the bags and gently shake them, allowing the dates to tumble down into baskets.

Nutritional Value

Dates are rich in fiber, carbohydrates, minerals, vitamin B complex, and proteins, offering almost all twenty amino acids. They also contain calcium, iron, magnesium, and more potassium per weight than a banana. Many of the nutrients in dates are essential for heart-health, nerve function, and promoting metabolic functions, and the vitamins found in dates are needed for building healthy muscle and body tissue.
